Senior Salute

Submitted by Heather on Thu, 2009-10-15 14:05

Every October, we give a big senior salute to older persons who are redefining what it means to retire. They prove that age is just a number...a number which doesn't stop them from working and working out. We caught up with a 78-year-old woman who spends her days at the gym, and when she can't get a ride to the sports facility, she exercises in her house. That made me think. Ever since I entered my thirties, I thought I was "too old" to do some of the things I did in my teeny booper years. My body didn't bounce back from all night partying, had a hard time waking up for work when I didn't go out the night before, and had an even harder time going to the gym. I blamed it on age. I told myself that I was no longer a spring chicken, so I couldn't expect to have the same vitality as the Heather at Michigan State or the Heather at Penn Hills High. I was comfortable and secure in my skin and loved life. I LOVE my thirties. I enjoy living on an exotic island, writing a book, taking trips, attending church, and hanging out with family and friends. I'm walking in my purpose...stress and worry free. But I was fooling myself. As Ms. Glasgow tells us in this video, we can get in shape at any age!
