Bootylicious
Destiny's Child coined the term bootylicious back in 2001. Since then, it has worked its way into the dictionary and even the conversations of elderly men and women! But "saying" and "being" the term are two totally different things. Many of us mouthed the words and swayed our hips to the hit song, but didn't take the steps needed to firm up the backside.
The GIS: Get in Shape team (well, the courageous ones) decided to get our rears in gear at an indoor cycling class at King's Sports Centre. And another saying…no pain no gain…rang true. As soon as we sat down on the hard, slender seats, we were sore, even with the padded seat covers! Once we got over our uncomfortable position, we took a trip to East End, well in our minds. Our instructor led us through an intense bike ride across Cayman, and we pedaled in our seats and standing up. When we closed our eyes, we could picture the winding roads and feel the breeze on our faces. When we got tired, we just adjusted our resistance or sat down on our seats. We didn’t feel left behind, because everyone pedaled at their own pace, never passing each other up on our stationary bikes.
Although some of us aren’t taking up cycling in the near future, we explored a new exercise. We conquered our fears. We felt bootylicious, if only for a day…well, a week, because, boy we were sore the next few days at work! Many of the participants plan to drop in the class again (next time with padded shorts.) Our
Spinning Instructor Maureen tells us why beginners and elite athletes have an equally hard time adjusting to this sport.
