About Get In Shape

Do you want to lose weight, eat right, and feel better inside and out? If so, tune into GIS: Get in Shape! The new health and fitness series debuts on GIS Spotlight in October 2009.

For three months, Host Heather Hopson, along with nearly a dozen coworkers, will team up with the Health Services Authority. HSA staff will teach participants how to not only shed pounds, but keep the weight off as well.
They’ll also show them how diets don’t work, but meal planning and label reading never fails. And what’s the point of building muscle if you don’t build confidence? To help boost self-esteem and manage stress, participants will sit down with a psychologist.

You don’t have to only watch from home. You can get off the couch and into the gym and join GIS as they Get in Shape! Along the way, participants will blog about their experiences.

Each televised segment runs about five minutes. But the interviews take much longer to conduct. To make sure you have all the information you need to reach your health and fitness goals, we’ll post entire interviews from nutritionists, personal trainers, and therapists.

Plus, you’ll find links to local businesses with unique exercise plans, healthy menu selections, and fat free recipes. And we’ll connect you to web sites and articles to arm you with the knowledge you need to succeed.

The first segment chronicles GIS staff on their journey to better health through exercise, proper nutrition, and stress management.

Meet a mother of two trying to balance work, kids, and staying in shape, a father who hopes his kids aren’t picking up his unhealthy habits, and a woman who has tried everything from diets and boot camps to personal trainers and seaweed wraps. Plus, here how age is just a number from a 78-year-old woman who spends her days lifting weights.
They’ll all weigh in on why they want to create a healthier lifestyle and how a support group will help them reach their goals. Among the diverse group, viewers will relate to at least one of their personal stories.

HSA staff will conduct assessments, checking blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, posture, and other measurements.
